Merging two distinct Atlassian instances within a corporate fusion poses significant challenges, including ensuring seamless collaboration, securing data, and minimizing downtime. This case study explores how we successfully navigated these pain points to optimize and harmonize the environments for a leading energy group’s subsidiaries.

Challenges of Atlassian Instances Merger

In the context of corporate fusion, we worked on a merger between two subsidiaries of a leading energy group to harmonize their distinct Atlassian environments.

The main project’s challenges were simplifying teams collaboration and communication while optimizing the costs associated with the tool. To answer our customer expectations, different attention points were followed:

  • Optimize, synchronize, and rationalize licenses and add-ons
  • Secure the targeted environment
  • Rationalize the data to be migrated
  • Avoid the migration of technical debt
  • Reduce the downtime for the teams
  • Merge instances to ensure better team collaboration

Merging two Atlassian Environments

In order to complete the merger, our team observed several preparatory steps.

  1. Audit of tools: recommendations for the scope of migration and migration methods
  2. Tools updates: upgrade of all instances and tools to prevent security breaches and prepare for the merger
  3. Preparation of the target environment to host the data: users, settings, system verification, plugins, etc.
  4. Creation of a test environment ISO target environment
  5. Planning of migrations

At the end of this first phase of preparation, the realization of the project could be started. The team migrated the Confluence spaces and Jira projects, before adjusting the various plugins.

Finally, our intervention ended with a follow-up and support service.

An easier and more secure administration of Jira

Thanks to the expertise provided by our teams, 60 Confluences spaces, 32 Jira projects and numerous streamlined plug-ins were migrated without any loss of data.
